The 'Becoming Coolies' team collaborated with Dr Maria Kaladeen at the University of London on a conference entitled: 'Back to the Future?' Interrogating the Contemporary Use of Imperial terms in the Academy, held at Senate House, University of London, 6-9th October 2015. Drs Andrea Major and Ashutosh Kumar presented papers.
The conference was followed by a literary event: 'Finding Ourselves: writers exploring legacies of indenture' in which extracts from their memoirs and novels were read by Clem Seecharan, Khal Toorabully, Gaiutra Bahadur, and Jan Lowe Shinebourne.
