Project research featured in Uncertain States magazine

Distant Gazes by Reza Tavakol, Cosmologist-Poet-Artist has just been published in Uncertain States, issue 28.
Uncertain States is a lens-based artist collective who are passionate about creating, discussing and promoting photography.
The work reflects current concerns and challenges how perceptions about personal identity are formed. The newspaper
is distributed free of charge at Turner Contemporary, Margate, Tate Britain Reading Room and V & A London, Baltic Newcastle,
Ikon Birmingham, Open Eye Liverpool and numerous other art galleries and museums around the UK.
Inspired by the screen prints exhibited by artist Danny Flynn in G511ERY, Reza's article reproduces some of
the historical photographs of Indian migrants to Mauritius, derived from the AHRC-funded research of Marina Carter
[Universities of Leeds and Edinburgh]. The article poses many pertinent and revealing questions about the act of photography
and of photographing these particular subjects.
